Should we use Wix or Weebly?

Summary of comparison at Website Builder Expert:

Wix:

A “Pure” drag & drop builder as you can insert content anywhere you want to across Wix’s broad range of professional looking design templates.  This gives you a lot of creative control over your design. Wix has a lot more advanced tools than Weebly, and a much more comprehensive support system.  The limitation to some users, is that once you select a template and build out your website, if you want to change templates, your content will not be transferred over and so you will have to re-insert your content.  But overall, we feel that Wix enables you to build a much better looking website due to its design templates and extensive tools.

Weebly:

Weebly is very user friendly and intuitive to use.  They kept their tools a bit more minimalistic to keep their platform and designs clean, and a bit less cluttered.  Although Weebly’s tools are not as flexible or advanced as Wix’s tools, they do allow you to have more flexibility in terms of the ability to change templates without having to rebuild your content, the ability to import external premium templates, and the ability to edit the codes to the template to make cusotmizations.  We feel that Weebly is easier to use than Wix, but you won’t get as many tools and non-code based styling control as Wix.

Affordable Outreach's opinion:

Weebly is simple with less room for error. The free site has less intrusive advertising than Wix so if you truly have nothing extra in the budget and need a free site, Weebly is your builder. You'll have the Weebly name in your URL and the Weebly logo as your favicon. I have a free Weebly site at http://affordablechurchwebsites.weebly.com that you can see.

Wix offers more templates to choose from, more creative design flexibility, and more tools. There are several subscriptions available with the lowest being $5/month. There will be a small unobtrusive Wix ad along the bottom. This website is the $5 plan. You can see the ad along the bottom, and I get to use my own favicon in the page tab. The free website has more advertising and the URL is confusing--I did not want that.

I like Wix because it's so much fun to work with and allows more creative design, but it can be more complicated and become messy if you don't pay close attention to details.

If a novice is going to maintain the website, we recommend Weebly.
